Cincinnati Fire Protection
Common Questions

Real answers to the questions Cincinnati property managers and building owners ask most.

Inspection & Compliance

How often does NFPA 10 require inspection?

Annually. Every commercial fire extinguisher requires a professional inspection at least once every 12 months. Building staff also need to perform monthly visual checks. Specific units (CO2, dry chemical) have additional 6 and 12-year maintenance requirements.

What does my Cincinnati inspection actually cost?

$10 per extinguisher plus a $95 trip charge per visit. Volume discounts available for portfolios over 50 units.

What if a unit fails inspection?

We resolve it on the spot. Recharge, replacement, or remount, with your approval before any additional work. Most failures are resolved during the same visit.

How fast can you schedule?

Most inspections schedule within 48 hours. Same-week service is standard. Urgent situations get priority.

Emergency Lights & Exit Signs

What's a 90-minute load test?

NFPA 101 requires every battery-backup emergency light and exit sign to demonstrate it can run on battery for 90 minutes continuously, once per year. We disable AC supply and time each unit. Failed batteries get replaced.

How do I know if a unit failed?

Most fail silently. The status LED stays green even when the battery is dead. The only reliable way to know is the annual 90-minute test.

Do exit signs need batteries?

If the sign marks a required egress, yes. Most Ohio commercial buildings need illuminated exit signs with battery backup at every required exit.

What does emergency light service cost?

$15 per unit for the annual NFPA 101 test. Replacement combo lights are $165 installed, exit signs with backup lights are $155 installed, plain LED exits are $110 installed.

Fire Marshal & Citations

How long do I have to correct a violation?

Most Cincinnati and Ohio jurisdictions allow 30 days. Some hazards (commercial kitchens, hospitals) require correction within 7 to 14 days. Check your citation letter for your specific window.

Will the fire marshal accept your documentation?

Yes. We produce documentation specifically formatted for re-inspection submission, including before and after photos and code references.

What if I miss the correction deadline?

Fines compound and the marshal can issue a stop-work order. Don't miss the deadline. Send us the citation today and we'll schedule before the window closes.

What's the most common violation?

Expired inspection tags, dead emergency lights that nobody tested, and missing extinguishers (travel-distance violations). All three are routine corrections we resolve in a single visit.

Service & Scheduling

Do you serve all of Greater Cincinnati?

Yes. The full Cincinnati metro plus Northern Kentucky. 30-mile radius standard, with extended-zone service available on request.

Will you remember next year's inspection?

Yes. Apex tracks every customer's annual due date. We reach out automatically about 60 days before your next inspection. You don't have to track it.

Can you handle multiple buildings?

Yes. Property managers and franchise groups with portfolios of 5 to 50+ buildings get volume pricing and consolidated billing.

What if I'm unhappy with my current provider?

Switching is straightforward. We do a free walkthrough, document everything, and take over from your current annual cycle. No transition fee.
